Configuring your StudioPress theme will take some extra software.  Typically, you will need to use Adobe Photoshop and some other expensive software but I am going to give you some incredible tips on FREE software that will be just as effective.  Before you start following along in this tutorial, make sure you download and install the following free programs.  You may have already installed some of these yourself and if you did, great job!

7-Zip – This 100% free software will extract zip and rar files which is important when working with StudioPress themes.

Paint.NET – Very powerful image editor and best of all, it is completely free.  Be sure that you download the correct program off this site.  You will see the download link at the top right of the page that reads “Get it now (free download):”

Firefox Web Browser – Many of you will probably already have this installed onto your computer.  If not, go ahead, download, and install it.  If you plan on doing web work, this is the best browser for that.

Please follow this first video tutorial provided below prior to proceeding with the next two software installations.

FireFTP Firefox Extension – This is an FTP Firefox Extension that allows you to upload files to your Web server.

Paint.NET Photoshop Plugin – After you have installed Paint.NET, you now need to install the Paint.NET Photoshop Plugin so that you can edit Photoshop files that StudioPress comes with.  Note: if you already have Photoshop, I suggest that you use that program to edit the .psd files instead of Paint.NET.  I am assuming if you own Photoshop, you already know how to edit .psd files.  If you would like me to do a tutorial on how to edit .psd files in Photoshop, please let me know.

After you have successfully installed the above software, now we are ready to start editing your theme.  Watch the video below for detailed instructions.

Note:  If you need help editing your image file, email it to me at, and include a detailed description of what you would like it to look like.  I will edit it and email it back to you for FREE!!
